Perhaps taking woodworking jobs from other people is making you happy and contented. Wouldnt it be more beautiful if you have a steady cash flow while managing your own time?
With the kind of talent that you have, maybe its time you set up your own woodworking shop. This assures that you can maintain your clients while inviting more customers who will bring more profits and opportunities for you.
Just like any other kind of venture, the first key is to plan, and when you are at this stage, there are some important factors to consider, one of which is safety. There should be enough room to move and to put your machines in. Some of them have sharp edges that can injure any passerby. Never forget to place ABC fire extinguishers inside your shop, and they should fit your shops size (extinguishers used in kitchens are a big no-no). You can allow yourself to relax for a while by placing mats that you can sit on. Of course, always keep your firs-aid kit handy.
Your plan should also put great emphasis on the construction of your shop. Whenever possible, make as many modifications as possible until you are confident of your design. The walls and the ceiling, about 9 feet tall, should be insulated. It is ideal to have two doors, one mainly used during emergencies such as fire breakouts. Furthermore, your shop should have efficient plumbing, lighting, electrical, and heating and air conditioning systems. Lastly, buy the most effective dust collection system you can afford. Its better to invest your money now than in medications for your lungs later. A perfect partner for your dust collection system is an air cleaner, usually composed of 3 to 4 filters, blower, and sometimes multiple speeds. They cost around $250, but if this is too much of a burden for you, you can make your own. It may help you decide what to do, though, if youll calculate how much you are going to spend for both procedures and compare them later.
When you have your shop design, you can then buy your supplies and equipment. You may ask, What are the most important tools to buy first? Well, to answer your question, it would be a workbench, one that has a smooth top to prevent it from scuffing wood. For storage purposes, you may also create some built-in cabinets and drawers underneath it. Most of all, it should be versatile enough to allow you to work on various projects. Other power tools include hammers, vises, clamps, and saws.
Now that you know these, dont just build other peoples homes. Build your own future.
